Rishabh Pant was touched by Ravi Shastri's emotional reaction
Ravi Shastri was visibly moved as he presented Rishabh Pant with the best fielder medal, recognising Pant's exceptional wicketkeeping during India's narrow six-run victory over Pakistan in New York. The dressing room erupted in applause when it was announced that Shastri would be handing over the award to Pant, who not only took three crucial catches but also contributed a vital 42 off 31 balls.
Upon entering the room, Shastri was urged to say a few words. He nodded in agreement, his emotions evident as he began. "I couldn't hold back tears when I heard about your accident," he confessed, gesturing towards Pant. "Seeing you in the hospital was even tougher. Witnessing your remarkable comeback and seeing you back in form for such a significant match like India vs Pakistan was truly heartening," he added.
Shastri praised not only Pant's batting skills but also his remarkable recovery and swift return to top-tier wicketkeeping after surgery. "Your resilience is not just a personal triumph but an inspiration to millions worldwide. It proves that from the brink of adversity, one can snatch victory. Keep up the phenomenal work," he commented.
Reflecting on the intense India-Pakistan encounter, Shastri emphasised the thrilling nature of the game and how it kept everyone, not just in the dugout or dressing room, on the edge. "In the end, it's about the team that capitalises on the big moments and keeps its composure," he remarked.
Looking ahead, India is scheduled to face tournament co-hosts USA, while Pakistan is set to clash with Canada.
