Rohit Sharma Closes In To Be No. 1 ODI Batting Ranking Spot

In the latest updates to the ICC ODI batting rankings, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has made a significant leap to second place. This rise comes on the heels of his standout performance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he accrued a total of 157 runs, positioning himself as the highest run-scorer of the series despite India facing a 2-0 defeat. Rohit’s contributions included two fifties and an impressive strike rate of 141.44.

Shubman Gill, who held the second position prior to this update, has now fallen to third place, while Virat Kohli remains in fourth. The top Indian players are closely bunched, with only 19 rating points differentiating them, highlighting the competitive nature of the rankings. Both Rohit Sharma and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka are emerging as serious contenders for the number one spot.

This ODI series also marked a historic moment for Sri Lanka, who achieved their first victory over India in ODIs in 27 years, leading to notable rank climbs for their players like Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando.

In the bowling rankings, there have been some shifts as well, with players such as Nosthush Kenjige and Dunith Wellalage making notable progress.

Turning to the Test rankings, South Africa’s Temba Bavuma reached a career-high rating after his performances of 86 and an unbeaten 15 against the West Indies. His teammates Jason Holder and Alick Athanaze also improved their rankings following strong performances in that Test match. Keshav Maharaj garnered attention in the bowling rankings due to his standout performance, earning Player of the Match honours and climbing to joint 21st place.

Overall, these latest rankings reflect the dynamic nature of international cricket, with players actively contending for top positions across both ODIs and Tests.
