Ryan Harris is South Australia's new men's head coach

Ryan Harris has been appointed as South Australia's new men's head coach, succeeding Jason Gillespie. Harris, a former player for the state, has been serving as interim head coach over recent months and will now assume the role full-time as pre-season begins.

While it remains unclear who will take on the Adelaide Strikers' BBL head coach role, with Gillespie previously holding both positions, it's increasingly likely the jobs will be split. Tim Paine has expressed interest in the Strikers' position if this happens.

Ryan Harris expressed his excitement and honour at being named Head Coach of South Australia, where his first-class career began over 20 years ago. He remarked on his enthusiasm to build on the progress made last season and during pre-season. Harris noted the team's strong sense of self-belief under new captain Nathan McSweeney and emphasised their determination to start the new season strongly.

Last season, South Australia finished fifth in the Sheffield Shield and last in the Marsh Cup. They may benefit from the presence of internationals Travis Head and Alex Carey early in the Sheffield Shield season.

Harris, after retiring, has gained coaching experience with Australia’s under-19 team, the IPL's Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals, and as a consultant with the men's team. He was also Queensland Cricket's pathway manager before returning to South Australia as their bowling coach.
