Former KZN Dolphins and Cape Cobras all-rounder Calvin Savage starred with both bat and ball for the Texas Super Kings in their 37-run victory against the Seattle Orcas on Tuesday. The 31-year-old delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 45 off 27 balls to help Texas set a total of 177-8. He then took 2-23 with the ball, earning him the Man of the Match title.
Savage, who moved from South Africa to the USA in 2021, has found greater opportunities and stability in his new environment. Reflecting on his move, he said, "It is getting harder and harder in SA. Opportunities are more and more limited. In America, there is a lot more stability, and I am happy to be on a three-year contract with the Michigan Cricket Stars."
In addition to Savage's contributions, Texas captain Faf du Plessis also made a significant impact, scoring 39 off 17 balls in the match.
Seattle Orcas faced a tough challenge, with Ryan Rickelton being dismissed on the first ball by Ottneil Baartman, who recorded impressive figures of 3-20 in his four overs. Quinton de Kock managed 26 off 19 deliveries, while captain Heinrich Klaasen scored four off eight balls.
The Texas Super Kings' well-rounded performance secured a decisive win, highlighting the contributions of former South African cricketers making their mark in the USA.
