Shanto fully supports Al Hasan
Bangladesh's cricket captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, has voiced his confidence in veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's ability to perform well in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan, despite the country's ongoing political turmoil. Shanto addressed concerns regarding how this unrest might impact Shakib's game, highlighting the player's considerable experience and professionalism.
During a pre-match press conference, Shanto emphasised that Shakib understands his responsibilities and how to prepare for the matches, remarking, "I am not focused on his political career." He reiterated Shakib's importance to the team, referencing his impressive Test records of 4,505 runs and 237 wickets in 67 matches. Shanto expressed optimism that Shakib would shine in the series.
Shakib recently rejoined the squad in Pakistan after participating in the Global T20 League in Canada. The political unrest in Bangladesh had interrupted the team's practice sessions, but the Pakistan Cricket Board's invitation for an early arrival allowed them to adjust and prepare effectively.
Bangladesh faces a challenging situation, having won just one of their last 13 Test matches against Pakistan, with 12 losses and one draw. Nevertheless, Shanto remains hopeful about turning their luck around, stating, "We have a balanced side, and I hope we can play some good cricket." He believes that, despite the difficulties, the team has the potential to achieve remarkable outcomes in the series.
