South Africa must show their best to beat Scotland

South Africa delivered a dominant performance against Scotland in their Women’s T20 World Cup clash in Dubai on Wednesday, securing an 80-run victory. Despite none of the Proteas batters reaching a half-century, solid contributions from Laura Wolvaardt (40), Tazmin Brits (43), and Marizanne Kapp (43) helped South Africa post a commanding 166/5.

The South African bowlers ensured Scotland never posed a threat, dismissing them for 86. Nonkululeko Mlaba was the standout with 3/12, supported by Chloe Tryon (2/22) and Nadine de Klerk (2/15). The win helped the Proteas bounce back after their defeat to England in the previous match.

"It's always tricky playing games like today, but we knew we had to be at our best," Kapp said after the match. "The message throughout this tournament has been to be more attacking during the powerplay, and our openers did brilliantly today."

Kapp was particularly impressed with Mlaba’s performance, praising her ability to find form during the World Cup. "She hadn't been at her best in the lead-up, but it’s great to see her turn things around when it matters."

Despite carrying a niggle, Kapp has continued to contribute as a batter, having opted not to bowl in the warm-up games. She explained that the decision was to manage her injury while maintaining momentum with the bat.

Looking ahead, Kapp expressed her determination to take South Africa all the way in the tournament. A win against Bangladesh in their final group game will secure the Proteas a spot in the semi-finals. "Playing for your country, especially at World Cups, makes you want to perform at your best," she said.
