Sri Lanka raised security concerns in England

The Sri Lankan men’s cricket team has raised security concerns in England due to recent anti-immigrant riots. The ECB has assured Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) of comprehensive security measures. 

Nine players and support staff already in England for training are anxious as their current security does not cover their travel to a ground near London. They have requested enhanced protection until the main team arrives.

“We’re concerned but trying to avoid any trouble,” a player told ESPNcricinfo, adding that they have requested additional security from SLC without a response yet.

The main team will arrive on Sunday for the Test series, starting on August 21 in Manchester. SLC’s team manager, Mahinda Halangoda, confirmed that the ECB has provided details of their security plan and will assign a security liaison.

The UK government has reassured that the country is safe for sporting events, with police committed to preventing violence. The series will continue at Lord’s on August 29 and conclude at The Oval on September 6.
