Steyn Exits Sunrisers Hyderabad, Remains with Eastern Cape in SA20

Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn will no longer serve as the bowling coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025. However, Steyn will continue his role with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 league.

Steyn, who took on the SRH coaching role in 2022, had missed the IPL 2024 season due to personal reasons, with James Franklin filling in for him. Announcing his departure, Steyn expressed his gratitude, stating on X (formerly Twitter), "A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad... unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025. I’ll continue with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20."

Steyn had initially joined SRH under coach Tom Moody and continued through transitions in coaching leadership, with Brian Lara and Daniel Vettori. Under Vettori, SRH reached the IPL final in 2024, their first appearance since 2018, though they ultimately lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Steyn’s stint with Sunrisers Eastern Cape has been highly successful, guiding the team to back-to-back SA20 titles in 2023 and 2024.

In his playing career, Steyn represented multiple IPL franchises, including SRH, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Lions, and Deccan Chargers. Meanwhile, SRH is expected to retain key players like Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, and Abhishek Sharma ahead of the upcoming IPL mega auction.
