T20 Challenge conclusion: Lions beat WP in SuperOver

Kwena Maphaka, a star of the South African Under-19 team, played a crucial role in helping the Central Gauteng Lions secure a Super Over victory against Western Province at the Wanderers on Sunday.

Province batted first after winning the toss and ended on 127-9 after 20 overs. Lutho Sipamla (2-20) and Codi Yusuf (2-28) claimed two wickets each.

David Bedingham top-scored for the visitors with 37 runs. They were hoping to secure their fourth consecutive win in this season's T20 Challenge.

Chasing a rain-reduced target of 52 in seven overs, the Lions could only manage 51-3, forcing the match into a one-over shoot-out.

Wayne Parnell bowled for the visitors and restricted Ryan Rickelton (one not out) and Evan Jones (eight not out) to just 10 runs.

Maphaka then ensured that Kyle Verreynne (five not out) and George Linde (four not out) could only score nine runs.

The EP Warriors continued their winning streak in the T20 Challenge with a 32-run victory on the DLS method against the Boland Rocks in Gqeberha.

The Warriors scored 165-6 after winning the toss, with Jiveshan Pillay as the top-scorer with 45* and Patrick Kruger contributing 29*.

The visitors were bowled out for 117 in 16.4 overs while chasing a rain-revised target in 17 overs.

Clyde Fortuin and Christiaan Jonker each scored 33, while Beyers Swanepoel took 4-16 and Patrick Kruger 3-20.

With this win, the log-leading Warriors moved to 19 points, two clear of the Lions.

The match between KZN Dolphins and North West Dragons on Sunday in Durban ended in a no result.

When the rain came, the Dragons were 79 for 4 after 13.2 overs.
