Australia's Mitchell Marsh remains on course to play in the T20 World Cup despite being likely to be ruled out of the rest of the IPL, according to Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting.
Marsh, who returned home after playing just four matches for Delhi in the IPL, is expected to captain Australia in the T20 showpiece in the West Indies and the United States from June 1.
Ponting said to reporters on Monday:
“I don’t think he would be coming back [to India]. Cricket Australia was really keen to have Mitchell at home to start his recovery process, so we sent him back as soon as we could.”
CA has been managing his rehabilitation over the last couple of weeks, the former Australian captain added.
Marsh, 32, suffered a partial tear in his right hamstring after scoring just 61 runs and taking one wicket from four matches.
The all-rounder has played 54 T20Is for Australia.
This year's IPL will come to an end with the final in Chennai on May 26.
