Cape Town native Tanguy Durrant played a crucial role in France's victory over the Isle of Man during the Under-19 World Cup European Qualifier held in Albertslund, Denmark.
France opted to bat first after winning the toss, amassing a total of 269/9. Durrant, wielding his D&P bat, scored a brisk 70 runs from just 48 deliveries, boasting a strike rate of 145.83. His innings featured nine boundaries and two powerful sixes.
Now 17, Durrant resides in Putney, South West London, and is eligible to represent France through his French mother. His innings was well supported by Sajad Stanikzay, who contributed 61 runs from 82 balls, and opener Hussnain Afzal, who added 40 runs from 55 balls.
Before the Isle of Man began their chase, Durrant expressed confidence in his team's ability to defend their total, emphasizing the quality of the pitch and the strength of their bowling attack. He noted that as long as they maintained high fielding standards, they would likely come out on top.
Durrant's confidence was well-founded, as France bowled out the Isle of Man for just 83 runs in 29.1 overs, securing a comprehensive victory by 186 runs.
When asked about his aspirations to play for South Africa, Durrant stated that while he is proud to represent France, he would also love the opportunity to play for South Africa in the future. He shared his admiration for AB de Villiers, mentioning how de Villiers' choice of the number 17 jersey has been an inspiration to him.
The Under-19 World Cup European Qualifiers, featuring teams from France, the Isle of Man, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Italy, Sweden, and Belgium, began on Wednesday, July 24, and will conclude today, July 30.
