Captain George van Heerden scored his first T20 century as Team SA beat hosts Ghana by 134 runs in their opening match of the African Games.
The 20-year-old hit eight fours and seven sixes, reaching an unbeaten 107 off 57 balls to help Team SA score 237-2 after winning the toss and choosing to bat first at the Achimota Cricket Oval on Sunday.
Despite losing opening batsman Maahir Joseph early on, Van Heerden received excellent support from Heinrigh Pieterse, who scored a blistering 62 off 34 balls (four fours and three sixes), and Lehan Botha, who contributed a pulsating 46 off 25 balls (five fours, three sixes).
The hosts were restricted to 103-7 in the chase, with Jesse Prodehl (2-10) and Jason Raubenheimer (2-23) each taking two wickets.
All-rounder Botha (1-19) took the first wicket by having Richmond Baaleri (nine) caught behind in the fifth over.
James Vifah was the top scorer with a quickfire 41 off 25 balls (including six fours and one six) before being bowled by Raubenheimer. Rexford Bakum (one) was run out, leaving the hosts at 68-3 halfway through the match.
Prodehl took two wickets in two overs. First, he trapped opposing skipper Obed Harvey lbw for eight. Then, he held on to one-off his bowling to remove Devender Singh (nine), leaving Ghana reeling on 74-5 within 13 overs.
Pieterse (1-11) then got into the act with the wicket of Michael Aboagye (five) before Raubenheimer claimed his second wicket of the innings, having Joseph Theodore caught behind for one.
The hosts fell well short of their 238-run target with Kelvin Awala (13*) and Godfred Bakiweyem (9*) remaining unbeaten.
Team SA will return to action against Kenya at the same venue on Monday.
