The Dolphins awards saw Candler and Cele receive significant recognition

As the 2023/24 domestic cricket season drew to a close, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins celebrated achievements across both the men's and women's games at their 2024 season-ending awards. Okuhle Cele and Alexander Candler were presented with the Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season awards, respectively.

The 2023/24 season was another successful one for both the women's and men's teams, who demonstrated their ability to perform consistently throughout the season. The highlight of the 2023/24 season was the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies team's victory in the inaugural CSA Women's One Day Cup. This was the first trophy for a Dolphins women's side.

The men's team also performed well throughout the season, despite not winning any trophies. The team once again made it to the final of the CSA T20 Challenge but was unable to secure a place in the final of the CSA 4-Day Domestic Series.

From a women's perspective, Candler demonstrated excellent batting skills for the Dolphins side, contributing to their success in the 50-over competition. Her 89 runs in the final match against the Lions proved pivotal in securing a historic victory for the team.

She was the Dolphins' top run scorer in the competition overall and also led the Dolphins in T20 run scoring.

Candler's performance in the One Day Cup yielded 278 runs at an average of 46 and a top score of 89. In the T20 Competition, he contributed 165 runs with a top score of 62 not out.

In the men's competition, Cele was the stand-out bowler for the Dolphins following his return to Durban from the Titans.

In the recently concluded T20 Challenge, he achieved 17 wickets, in addition to his 24 wickets in the 4-Day Series. He was the Dolphins' top bowler in both competitions.

Marques Ackerman was awarded the CSA 4-Day Domestic Series Player of the Year after finishing as the tournament's leading run-scorer. Mr. Ackerman concluded the competition with 571 runs at an average of 51, including three fifties and one hundred.

Jason Smith was the most outstanding player for the Dolphins in the One Day Cup and was duly awarded the Dolphins One Day Cup Player of the Year accolade. He amassed 266 runs at an average of 88, including 102 fifties.

The women's award winners included Jade de Figueiredo, who was named T20 Challenge bowler of the year, and our Proteas star Nonkululeko Mlaba, who received the One Day Cup Bowler of the Year award.

De Figueiredo achieved the best figures of 2/1, with an economy of just 3.83 runs per over, in the T20 Challenge. Mlaba demonstrated her prowess with the ball in the One Day Cup, taking 18 wickets at an average of eight runs per wicket and achieving the best figures of 5/24.

Dolphins captain Nondumiso Shangase was awarded the One Day Cup Fielder of the Year prize and led the team to an impressive season.
