The first major challenge will be the upcoming series against Sri Lanka

Gautam Gambhir has expressed his pride and enthusiasm at being named the new head coach of the Indian national cricket team, taking over from the legendary Rahul Dravid. In a heartfelt message, Gambhir credited Dravid and his support staff for their outstanding work and achievements with the team.

Gambhir specifically praised Dravid for his leadership during India's recent triumph at the ICC T20 World Cup, where the team emerged victorious without a single loss. He also acknowledged Dravid's guidance in guiding India to three ICC finals and securing the Asia Cup.

Feeling honoured to serve his country once again, this time as head coach, Gambhir reflected on his pride in representing India as a player and expressed his eagerness to bring the same passion and commitment to his coaching role.

Gambhir commended Dravid and his support staff for their successful tenure, recognising the high standards they established and the strong foundation they built for future success. He looks forward to collaborating closely with VVS Laxman, who is currently serving as interim head coach for India's T20I series against Zimbabwe.

Gambhir is excited to work alongside the BCCI, support staff, and players to achieve future triumphs. His first major challenge will be the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, which includes three T20Is and three ODIs. He is focused on enhancing the team's existing strengths and fostering future successes.

With a wealth of experience and a history of success as a former player, Gambhir played a pivotal role in India's victories at the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, where he top-scored in both finals. His leadership skills were evident during his time with the Kolkata Knight Riders, leading the team to IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.

As Gambhir steps into his new role as head coach, his admiration for Dravid and determination to continue the team's success are evident. His experience, strategic thinking, and love for cricket will be essential as he leads the Indian cricket team into the next chapter, beginning with the series against Sri Lanka.
