KZN Inland Tuskers players and coaches had to remove pins and glass shards from the Pietermaritzburg Oval field.
According to Rapport newspaper, this was necessary after the KZN State of the Province address by Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube was held at the venue earlier in the week. The players were concerned about the risk of injury if all the pins were not picked up.
As a result, the Tuskers' warm-up match scheduled for Friday had to be cancelled. CSA may consider moving their T20 Challenge matches to another venue.
Last year, the field was littered with condoms, beer cans, and chicken bones after another event.
Rapport reports that delegates from CSA and the South African Cricketers' Association (Saca) will visit the union on Tuesday. After the visit, a decision will be made on whether the Pietermaritzburg Oval can host T20 Challenge matches.
Saca also wants to discuss the poor quality of the facilities and the lack of support the union provides to the Tuskers team.
