Making a return to the Test setup is wicketkeeper-batsman Ryan Rickelton, marking his comeback since South Africa last hosted West Indies in March 2023. However, all-rounder Marco Jansen will sit out the series to undergo a conditioning period aimed at maintaining his physical and mental well-being after a demanding season.
Conrad expressed eagerness about the return to Test cricket following an intense period of limited-overs matches. He emphasised the tour's significance in the ICC World Test Championship standings, highlighting the selection of their strongest possible squad for the Caribbean series.
"Matthew Breetzke brings fresh energy to our squad with his exceptional performances last season," Conrad remarked. "The decision to rest Marco Jansen is part of our strategy to ensure all players are in optimal condition for the challenges ahead."
Half of the squad will participate in a preparatory camp in Durban next week, with the full squad assembling in Trinidad and Tobago on July 27. Players involved in the Major League Cricket final on July 28 will join the squad the following day.
