“Things went our way today” Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram admitted that South Africa's victory over Bangladesh in New York was a fortunate one, acknowledging that several factors favoured his team on the day. Despite a rocky start, South Africa managed to post a modest total of 113/6 after being reduced to 23/4 early in their innings. Markram credited Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller for their exceptional partnership, which helped set a defendable score.

Reflecting on the tense final overs, Markram recognised the pressure of such situations but expressed gratitude for being on the winning side. He admitted that spinner Keshav Maharaj's two crucial wickets in the last over, despite being from full tosses, were fortunate for South Africa. Markram highlighted the unpredictable nature of cricket, suggesting that the outcome could have easily been different had Mahmudullah's shot gone a few meters further.

While acknowledging Maharaj's role in the final over, Markram indicated that future bowling decisions would depend on the match situation. He explained that using seamers earlier in the innings to attack and saving spinners for later overs could be a strategic choice based on the game's dynamics.

Overall, Markram emphasised the unpredictability of cricket and the importance of capitalising on favourable circumstances, acknowledging that South Africa had benefited from a bit of luck in their victory over Bangladesh.
