As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) approaches, cricket fans are bracing for one of the sport's most storied rivalries: India versus Australia. The series kicks off on November 22, pitting the top two Test teams against each other in what promises to be a thrilling contest.
Australian batter Usman Khawaja recently reflected on the importance of this rivalry. "We’re the world number one and number two teams over the last two years," Khawaja told Star Sports. "We were both present at the last World Test Championship. The rivalry has always been intense, and I see it as a mark of respect. I know the Indians relish beating Australia in any form of cricket."
Khawaja also acknowledged Australia’s historical dominance in cricket. "The tradition that Australia has built over the years has solidified our reputation as one of the top teams globally," he said.
He further noted India's fierce determination to overcome Australia. "For Indians, it’s always been crucial to beat Australia," Khawaja observed. The rise of Indian cricket, especially through the Indian Premier League (IPL), has added a new dimension to this rivalry. "Since India's rise and their consecutive series wins in Australia, the competition has become even more intense," Khawaja added.
The series will feature a captivating day-night Test at Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10. The action then moves to The Gabba in Brisbane for the third Test from December 14 to 18, followed by the traditional Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26 to 30. The series will culminate with the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7, ensuring a dramatic conclusion to this eagerly anticipated series.
