Warriors and Western Province win in Division 1 of the CSA T20 Challenge

On Wednesday, the Dafabet Warriors maintained their unbeaten streak in the 2023/24 CSA T20 Challenge by defeating the DP World Lions by two runs at the Bullring.

Andile Mogakane's unbeaten half-century of 73* off 51 deliveries, along with contributions from Jordan Hermann (40) and Sinethemba Qeshile (22*), propelled the visitors to a total of 173/4 after being asked to bat first.

Lions were well in their response, with Rassie van der Dussen leading the charge with 43 runs. His 53-run partnership with Temba Bavuma (28) steadied the innings after the early loss of their openers.

But it was Wiaan Mulder's brave 43 off 20 balls that gave the Lions hope. He hit three towering sixes in the penultimate over before being dismissed by Alfred Mothoa (3/35).

Beyers Swanepoel (2/27) defended 12 runs in the final over to secure a narrow two-run win for the Warriors. The Lions concluded their innings on 171/7.

Meanwhile, at WSB Newlands, Edward Moore (101) scored his maiden T20 century for World Sports Betting Western Province.

Moore's knock, which included 11 boundaries and 4 maximums, led Western Province to a commanding 48-run victory over AET Tuskers.

Wayne Parnell also made a solid contribution with 46 runs, while Kyle Verreynne remained unbeaten on 23. Together, they helped set a formidable target of 209 runs.

Despite Kagiso Rapulana's valiant effort with a half-century, scoring 60 off 43 deliveries, Tuskers fell short, managing to reach only 160/7 by the end of their innings. Keith Dudgeon held firm with an unbeaten 35.

Mbulelo Budaza was the standout bowler for Tuskers, taking three crucial wickets.

Meanwhile, Kyle Simmonds and Juan James, a promising talent from South Africa Under-19s, each claimed two wickets for Western Province.

In Division 2, Limpopo Impalas and Eastern Cape Iinyathi won against Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers and Mpumalanga Rhinos, respectively. Both teams have qualified for the Division 2 T20 Knockout semifinals, along with ITEC Knights and Northern Cape Heat, despite their match being abandoned on Wednesday afternoon.
