West Indies Secure Historic Series Win Over Bangladesh

West Indies celebrated their first bilateral ODI series victory against Bangladesh in a decade with a commanding 7-wicket win, led by Jayden Seales’s career-best 4 for 22. Seales dismantled Bangladesh’s top order early, reducing them to 64/4 within 11 overs, and the visitors managed only 227. Brandon King anchored the chase, guiding the hosts to victory with 13.1 overs to spare.

Opting to bowl first in St. Kitts, West Indies made an immediate impact. Seales struck early, dismissing Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das, and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz during the powerplay. Despite a spirited 46 from opener Tanzid Hasan, who hit six boundaries in his 33-ball stay, Justin Greaves ended his resistance, leaving Bangladesh struggling at 64/4.

Bangladesh attempted to recover through Mahmudullah and Afif Hossain, who added 36 runs for the fifth wicket. However, Gudakesh Motie’s double strike removed Afif and Jaker Ali in quick succession, leaving the visitors in deep trouble at 104/6. A brief glimmer of hope came when Mahmudullah and Tanzim Hasan Sakib stitched a gritty 92-run partnership for the eighth wicket. Mahmudullah played a measured knock, reaching his fifty in 84 balls and smashing two sixes to lift Bangladesh past 200. However, Sakib fell just five runs short of his half-century after an excellent return catch by Roston Chase, and Seales returned to dismiss Mahmudullah shortly after. A late cameo from Shoriful Islam, who hit 4, 4, and 6 in a brief 15-run knock, helped Bangladesh reach 227 before being bowled out in the 46th over.

Chasing 228, West Indies laid a solid foundation with an opening stand of 109 between Brandon King and Evin Lewis. King started aggressively, while Lewis struggled early but found his rhythm with a 4, 6, 4 blitz off Sakib in the ninth over, bringing up the team’s fifty. Lewis eventually fell one run short of his half-century, caught and bowled by Rishad Hossain after hitting consecutive sixes off Mehidy.

King continued to anchor the chase, reaching his fifty off 52 balls and partnering with Keacy Carty in a 66-run stand. Carty, who struck seven boundaries in his 47-ball knock, also fell just short of a fifty, departing on 45. By then, West Indies needed only 31 runs to seal the series. Sherfane Rutherford’s quick-fire 24 off 15 balls, featuring two sixes and a four, wrapped up the win emphatically.

Brief Scores:

  • Bangladesh: 227 in 45.5 overs (Mahmudullah 62; Seales 4-22, Motie 2-36)
  • West Indies: 230/3 in 36.5 overs (King 82, Lewis 49, Carty 45)

With this victory, West Indies showcased clinical performances with both bat and ball, marking a memorable end to their decade-long wait for an ODI series win over Bangladesh.
