Why the Gujarat Titans are adept at the chase is explained by Shubman Gill

Gujarat Titans have a remarkable record of successful chases in IPL cricket, having won 16 out of 22 matches batting second. The team's new captain, Shubman Gill, commented on being written off, reflecting on their ability to come from behind and win.

Despite conceding 196 runs on a challenging pitch, they managed to secure a victory on Wednesday night. It is noteworthy that the Titans have a history of surprising their opponents with unexpected victories. According to Sanju Samson, the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals, there was no dew and the ball had a lower bounce, making it difficult to hit big shots. He stated that the expected score was around 180.

Gill explained how he and his team approach a T20 chase:

"We were targeting 45 in three overs and that is very much gettable. Fifteen runs per over [means] you just need two hits in the over and that was the mindset at that time. Mathematically, both batsmen need to score nine-ball 22 runs and if you think like that, okay, it's three hits in nine balls and if one of the batsmen goes berserk, you'll see the match getting over in two three balls. [Impact sub] definitely makes a difference, if you have an extra batter there. But it's just the mindset [thinking of 45 in three overs as needing just two hits an over] to make things more easy, more simple."

Gill contributed an impressive 72 runs off 44 balls. His innings was particularly noteworthy for his aggressive approach against R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, who are typically the Royals' strongest bowlers during the middle overs. Although Gill appeared capable of single-handedly leading the Titans to victory, he ultimately fell attempting to hit a third consecutive boundary off Chahal in the 16th over and left the field in frustration after smashing his bat into the turf. At that point, the Titans - who had only won two of their previous five matches - required 64 runs from just 28 balls.

This was the fourth time that the Titans have successfully chased down 15 or more runs in the final over of an IPL match, out of eight attempts. After achieving this feat, they left the opposing team's captain speechless.
