Women's FTP 2025-29: Dedicated Windows for Major Leagues

The ICC’s new Women’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) for 2025-29 has established exclusive windows for major leagues: the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in January-February from 2026, The Hundred in August, and the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in November. This scheduling shift has led Cricket Australia to move its marquee women’s summer series to February-March.

The expanded ICC Women’s ODI Championship now includes Zimbabwe, raising the total to 11 teams. Each team will play four series at home and four away in the next cycle, as Zimbabwe debuts with both home and away tours.

The FTP also includes a new T20 Champions Trophy set for Sri Lanka in 2027, part of a plan to host at least one women’s global event annually. This tournament joins other major events like the 2026 and 2028 T20 World Cups, 2025 and 2029 ODI World Cups, and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The upcoming ODI World Cup will expand to 10 teams with 48 matches, while the T20 World Cup will feature 12 teams from 2026.

In a drive to prepare for ICC events, various teams will play tri-series tournaments. England, for instance, will host a tri-series with India and New Zealand before the 2026 T20 World Cup, while Sri Lanka and West Indies will also host tri-series in 2027 and 2028.
