Women's One-Day Cup won by Dolphins

The KZN Dolphins won the Women's One-Day Cup title with a 25-run victory over the Central Gauteng Lions on Saturday.

The Lions needed a bonus-point win in the final round to overtake the Dolphins at the top of the standings. The Professional Women's Domestic League concludes with the last fixtures of the weekend.

After winning the toss at the Wanderers, the Lions opted to field. They faced a challenging target as Alexandra Candler led the charge with an impressive knock of 89.

Asamkele Kawu (28) and Seshnie Naidu (25) also made supporting contributions, propelling the Dolphins to a competitive total of 200-7 within their allocated 50 overs.

Maddison Landsman and Relebogile Mkhize each managed to secure two wickets for the Lions.

However, the Lions' response was marred by a steady procession of wickets, and they found themselves four down by the halfway point.

Despite a resilient half-century by skipper Kgomotso Rapoo (60 off 53) and a valiant effort from Palesa Mapoo, who scored 26, the Lions ultimately succumbed and were bundled out for 175.

Meanwhile, in Oudtshoorn, the Garden Route Badgers were restricted to a modest total of 133 all out by the Free State.

Elandri Janse van Rensburg was the main contributor, taking 3-15 in six overs, with support from Zintle Kula, Yolandi Potgieter, and Miane Smit, who each took two wickets.

Despite notable contributions from Chantelle van Schoor (23) and Mochelle May (21), as well as some resistance from Micaela Andrews (35), the Badgers struggled to build a competitive score.

In response, Mignon van der Merwe (33), Verunissa Reddy (24), and Zintle Kula (21) of Free State led a composed chase, guiding their team to a comfortable four-wicket victory.
