In the 4-Day Domestic Series final at the Wanderers, Western Province were bowled out for 312, after Lions' fightback, thanks to Tshepo Moreki's impressive performance.
Moreki, the Central Gauteng Lions pace bowler, took 5-65, achieving his first five-wicket haul in his 96th first-class match.
At 285-5, Western Province appeared to be in a strong position to dominate the game, but the home team fought back and took wickets at regular intervals, restricting the visitors' first-innings lead to just 87 runs.
Gavin Kaplan (60 off 122 balls) and Daniel Smith (60 off 117) were the top scorers for Western Province, despite being dropped early in their innings when they had scored only 10 and 3 runs respectively.
Edward Moore scored 45 runs off 56 balls, while Tony de Zorzi contributed 51 runs off 59 balls at the top of the order. De Zorzi was caught behind off a superb delivery from Moreki, ending his chance of a big score.
WP finished day two of the five-day contest strongly by picking up the wickets of openers Dominic Hendricks (six) and Joshua Richards (two), leaving the Lions on 10-2 and still trailing by 77 runs.
