Yadav and Iyer to feature in BBT

Indian batters Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer are set to represent Mumbai in the upcoming Buchi Babu Tournament, aiming to revive their Test careers. The duo will play in Mumbai’s match against TNCA XI on August 27 in Coimbatore, both determined to make an impact and push for a return to India’s Test setup.

Fresh from leading India to a T20I series victory against Sri Lanka, Suryakumar Yadav is eager to showcase his red-ball skills and earn a spot in the Test squad. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who has faced challenges in recent Test matches, is looking to regain his form in this tournament and the upcoming Duleep Trophy, starting on September 5.

Yadav has only featured in one Test for India, against Australia in Nagpur in 2023, where he scored just eight runs in a single innings. Iyer, with 14 Test appearances, last played during the 2024 series against England in Visakhapatnam but struggled to make a significant impact. Both players see the Buchi Babu Tournament and the Duleep Trophy as key opportunities to bolster their cases for a Test recall.

The Mumbai team, led by Sarfaraz Khan, is brimming with talent. Sarfaraz, who is also eager to cement his place in the Test squad, is focused on India’s upcoming home series against Bangladesh next month. Having made his Test debut earlier this year against England, Sarfaraz has shown promise with 200 runs in five innings at an average of 50.00, including three half-centuries.

With a strong lineup and high aspirations, the Buchi Babu Tournament provides a vital platform for these players to stake their claim for a spot in India’s Test team.
