In the latest World Test Championship (WTC) developments, England secured a five-wicket win against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford on Saturday, moving up to fourth place in the WTC standings, which are currently topped by India and Australia.
This victory marks England's seventh win in 14 Tests during this cycle, raising their points percentage (PCT) to 41.1. On the other hand, Sri Lanka suffered their third defeat in five matches, dropping their PCT from 50 to 40. New Zealand currently holds third place with a PCT of 50.
Both England and Sri Lanka still have eight Tests remaining in this cycle. India and the defending champions, Australia, lead the standings with PCTs of 68.5 and 62.5, respectively.
In a surprising result, Bangladesh stunned Pakistan with a ten-wicket victory on Sunday, lifting them to sixth place in the standings.
As of August 25, 2024, 14 Test series remain in the WTC 2023-25 cycle, with eight teams still in the running for a spot in the final. Unfortunately, West Indies, with only four Tests left and a PCT of 20, have been eliminated from contention for next year’s WTC final at Lord’s.
