The incident occurred during le Roux's second over, causing severe facial bleeding. Despite the impact, le Roux remained composed and was able to walk off the field without assistance.
In the third over, le Roux, a South African player, was unexpectedly hit on the head by a shot from compatriot Rickleton. Medical staff quickly attended to le Roux, who fortunately was able to leave the field on his own power. Former New Zealand cricketer Corey Anderson took over the over in le Roux's absence.
Despite the injury, the San Francisco Unicorns successfully defended their total of 165 runs, limiting the Seattle Orcas to 142. Liam Plunkett, a former England paceman, played a key role in the Unicorns' victory, taking 3/26 in four overs.
Following their loss to the Unicorns, the Seattle Orcas faced another defeat against the Los Angeles Knight Riders, putting them at the bottom of the MLC season two standings. This is a stark contrast to their performance in the previous season when they topped the table.
