Despite a half-century from captain Faf du Plessis, the Bengaluru Royal Challengers suffered their fourth consecutive IPL defeat on Thursday.
RCB was bowled out for 196-8 by Mumbai Indians. India paceman Jasprit Bumrah took 5-21.
However, Mumbai reached their target with just three wickets down and 4.3 overs remaining, thanks to Ishan Kishan's 69 off 34 balls and Suryakumar Yadav's 52 off 19.
Mumbai is currently seventh on the 10-team IPL log, while RCB is ninth, just above the Delhi Capitals.
After Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to field first, Bumrah removed fellow India superstar Virat Kohli (three). Rookie pacer Akash Madhwal dismissed England's Will Jacks (eight) in the fourth over, leaving RCB struggling at 23-2.
On a placid Mumbai track, Du Plessis and young Rajat Patidar rebuilt the innings. Patidar played an impressive innings, scoring a 26-ball 50 with four sixes and three fours.
However, he was dismissed by Proteas fast bowler Gerald Coetzee. Australian superstar Glenn Maxwell failed again, scoring nought and leaving RCB in trouble at 108-4 in the 13th over.
Du Plessis was eventually dismissed by Bumrah, who returned to demolish the RCB middle-order.
Bumrah removed Mahipal Lomoror (nought) on the very next ball, leaving the visitors at 153-6 in the 17th over.
A late blitz by veteran Dinesh Karthik, who hit an unbeaten 23-ball 53, took RCB to 196-8. Bumrah also took two more wickets - rookies Saurav Chauhan and Vijaykumar Vyshak - to finish his match-defining spell.
Mumbai openers Kishan and Rohit Sharma set up the chase with a century partnership. Kishan hit five sixes before falling in the ninth over with the team at 101-1.
Sharma scored a steady 24-ball 38 and built another partnership with Yadav.
With Mumbai 139-2, Sharma was removed by the jacks. But before newcomer Vyshak took his wicket, Yadav's blitz took the home side to 176 in the 14th over.
In the 16th over, Pandya and young Tilak Verma finished off the home side.
Du Plessis was full of praise for Bumrah, saying, "He was the difference between the two innings.
