India and South Africa delivered dominant performances in the Women's T20 World Cup, staying on course for the semi-finals, while Sri Lanka and Scotland were knocked out after their third consecutive defeats.
India posted the highest total of the tournament, 172-3, as captain Harmanpreet Kaur (52*) and Smriti Mandhana (50) led the charge. In response, Sri Lanka struggled and were bowled out for 90, losing by 82 runs. Arundhati Reddy and Asha Sobhana both took 3-19, ensuring India’s second win in three matches. Kaur, showing no signs of a recent neck injury, was in fine form, saying, "I was in my zone, and I went hard at every opportunity."
Sri Lanka’s chase faltered early, collapsing to 6-3 before Kavisha Dilhari (21) and Anushka Sanjeewani (20) briefly resisted. Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu admitted, "We didn't bowl in the right areas and the batting failed."
Earlier, South Africa crushed Scotland by 80 runs after posting 166-5. Tazmin Brits (43), Laura Wolvaardt (40), and Marizanne Kapp (43) capitalised on Scotland’s weak fielding. Scotland faltered in their chase, managing just 86 all out in 17.5 overs. Nonkululeko Mlaba starred with the ball, taking 3-12.
South Africa’s captain Wolvaardt praised the team’s ruthlessness: "We wanted to show what we are about and kill it off the way we did."
Both India and South Africa will look to secure semi-final spots in their final group games.
