All-rounders Wessly Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta were cleared by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board on Thursday after serving the remainder of their four-month bans for "recreational drug use". They were also fined 50 percent of their salaries. ZC's medical staff have been responsible for Madhevere and Mavuta's recovery and they have been ordered to take part in the performance programme.
Following their bans, Zimbabwe Cricket released a statement announcing that both players had passed drug tests.
Both were clean, ZC said in a statement:
“After serving their four-month suspension for drug usage, Wessly Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta, members of the national squad, have been cleared by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) to resume competitive cricket. After their suspension term ended and passed their drug test.”
ZC managing director Givemore Makoni confirmed the end of their ban in a statement.
Madhevere and Mavuta last represented Zimbabwe in the home series against Ireland in December last year. They also featured in a Logan Cup match each for Mashonaland Eagles and Mid-West Rhinos in Zimbabwe's domestic first-class competition.
Batsman Kevin Kasuza joined the all-rounders in being suspended from all cricket with immediate effect for his recreational drug use in January. Zimbabwe Cricket has yet to issue an update on his suspension.
