Joe Root has reclaimed the title of the No.1 Test batsman, dethroning Kane Williamson, thanks to his outstanding performance in the recent series against the West Indies.
Root, the former England captain, scored 291 runs across three matches against the West Indies, including an impressive 87 in the final Test in Birmingham. This performance propelled the 33-year-old back to the top of the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings, surpassing Williamson. Root had first ascended to the No.1 position in August 2015, and this latest achievement marks his return to the summit after a stellar series.
Kane Williamson, the New Zealand veteran, has been pushed to second place due to Root's surge. Other notable changes in the rankings include Pakistan's Babar Azam and New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, who are now tied for third place, Australia's Steve Smith in fifth, and India's Rohit Sharma in sixth. England's Harry Brook dropped to seventh after an underwhelming performance against the West Indies.
