Klaasen and Markram performed exceptionally well, leading to a record-breaking performance by the Sunrisers

On Wednesday, the Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Mumbai Indians by 31 runs in a high-scoring IPL match. The Hyderabad team set a new record for the highest IPL total, scoring 277-3.

Travis Head from Australia played a key role in the victory, scoring 62 runs off just 24 balls.

The previous highest IPL total was achieved by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013, with a score of 263-5.

The left-handed opener, who was dropped on five by David off captain Hardik Pandya, reached his fifty in just 18 balls. After his departure, Abhishek Sharma reached his half-century off just 16 balls.

The team reached 100 in only seven overs, and Hyderabad posted the tournament's highest-ever total in the first 10 overs, scoring 148-2.

Abhishek fell for 63 off 23 balls, but there was no respite for the bowlers as they faced some punishing batting.

Hyderabad's innings saw a deluge of boundaries, with 18 sixes and 19 fours. The South African duo of Heinrich Klaasen (80* in 34 balls) and Aiden Markram (42* off 28) put up an unbeaten partnership of 116.

Mumbai's Kwena Maphaka, a 17-year-old left-arm quick, had a tough introduction to the IPL, conceding 66 runs in his four overs.

Mumbai responded strongly in the match, which saw 38 sixes hit, setting a new IPL record. This surpassed the previous record of 33 sixes, which had been achieved three times in earlier seasons.

Left-handed Tilak Varma stood out with his 64 runs in 34 balls for Mumbai. However, his effort was not enough on a batting-friendly pitch in veteran batsman Rohit Sharma's 200th IPL match.

Rohit scored a quickfire 26 off just 12 balls, while his opening partner Ishan Kishan contributed 34 runs to give Mumbai a flying start. However, after 10 overs, the innings lost momentum due to the ever-increasing asking rate.

In a late charge, Tim David smashed an unbeaten 42, but the chase was beyond reach as Mumbai ended on 246-5, their highest IPL total.

The match also featured the highest run aggregate of 523 runs in 17 years of the IPL.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Hyderabad, was the most successful bowler, taking 2-35 in his four overs of pace, which helped his team secure their first victory of the season.
