In a heartfelt video message, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli expressed his pride and support for the Indian athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Kohli reflected on the evolution of India's global image, from being stereotyped as a land of snake charmers and elephants to now being recognised as a powerhouse in technology and the largest democracy in the world.
Kohli highlighted the progress India has made, stating, "India, Bharat, Hindustan. There was a time when the world could only think of India as a land of snake charmers and elephants. Over time, that has changed. Today, we are known to the world as the largest democracy. A global tech hub. We are known for cricket, for Bollywood, for start-up unicorns and as the fastest growing economy in the world." He emphasised the nation's growth and potential for success in various fields.
Looking ahead to the Paris 2024 Olympics, Kohli expressed his confidence in the Indian contingent, consisting of 118 athletes, including 48 women, competing in 16 different sports. With 72 athletes participating in their first Olympics, Kohli urged the nation to rally behind them and support their quest for medals.
The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is scheduled for July 26, where India's athletes will showcase their talent and determination on the international stage. Kohli encouraged everyone to unite in cheering for the Indian team and celebrate their achievements with pride and enthusiasm.
