New Zealand ended South Africa's duck with multiple records for Williamson

O'Rourke's impressive 9 for 93 is the best by a New Zealand bowler on Test debut.

New Zealand has achieved its first-ever series win against South Africa in men's Test cricket, ending a nearly 92-year wait. This victory means that each of the first eight teams to play men's Tests have won at least one series against the other teams.

The series played by New Zealand against South Africa amounts to 18, which is the second-longest any team has had to wait for a series win against an opposition. Unfortunately, New Zealand holds the unwanted record, having taken 21 series to end the drought against England.

Kane Williamson has scored five hundreds in the fourth innings of Test cricket, which is the joint-highest for any batter, alongside Younis Khan. Four of those five hundreds were scored in successful chases, equalling the record held by Graeme Smith.

Williamson batted in 172 innings to reach his 32nd century in Test cricket, setting a new record. Steven Smith previously held the record, achieving this feat in 174 innings.

Williamson has converted 8 consecutive fifty-plus scores in Tests into centuries. His most recent dismissal came in a 2021 World Cup final against India, finishing on 52 not out. Only one other batter, Don Bradman, has a streak longer than him with 12.

Williamson has also scored hundreds in each of his last five home Tests. Two of those came in the last match at Mount Maunganui. Before him, only Bradman (1937-1946) and Smith (2014-2015) had scored hundreds in five consecutive home Tests.

Will O'Rourke's match haul of 9 for 93 in Hamilton is the best by a New Zealand bowler on Test debut. The previous best was Mark Craig's 8 for 188 against West Indies in 2014.

Since their last series defeat against South Africa in March 2017, New Zealand has won 13 consecutive home series. They have won ten of the 13 series played during this period. Three have ended in draws.
