Oval Invincibles triumphed over the Southern Brave

The Oval Invincibles have continued their remarkable performance in *The Hundred* Men's Competition by securing their second consecutive title in 2024. They triumphed over the Southern Brave by 17 runs in a thrilling final held at Lord's on August 18. This victory underscores their dominance in the competition, having also claimed the championship in the previous year against the Manchester Originals.

Opting to bat after losing the toss, the Invincibles made a solid start, featuring an opening partnership of 44 runs off 31 balls between Will Jacks and Dawid Malan. However, they encountered difficulties, finding themselves at 47-2. A vital partnership between Sam Curran and Jordan Cox helped stabilise the situation, contributing 46 runs off 30 balls. Despite this, the Southern Brave bowlers, particularly their spinners, fought back, taking quick wickets and leaving the Invincibles struggling at 102-6. Ultimately, the Invincibles managed to post a total of 147-9 in their 100 balls, aided by some late runs from Tom Curran and Tom Lammonby.

In pursuit of the target, the Southern Brave started strongly and reached 57-0 within 42 balls. However, the turning point came when leg-spinner Adam Zampa broke the opening partnership, igniting a dramatic collapse in the Brave's innings. Saqib Mahmood emerged as the standout bowler for the Invincibles, taking three key wickets that dismantled the Brave's middle order. The Southern Brave could only reach 130 runs in their allotted 100 deliveries, falling short by 17 runs.

Throughout the tournament, Sam Curran showcased exceptional skills, both with bat and ball, earning him the Player of the Tournament title after accumulating 201 runs and taking 17 wickets. In the final, Saqib Mahmood was awarded the Man of the Match for his pivotal bowling performance, which proved crucial in the Invincibles' victory.
