SA stadium upgrades to cost millions

The CSA plans to spend between R200 million and R400 million on upgrading South African cricket stadiums in preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will co-host the tournament.

The primary venues in South Africa will be Johannesburg's Wanderers, Pretoria's Centurion Park, Durban's Kingsmead, Gqeberha's St George's Park, Paarl's Boland Park, and Cape Town's Newlands. Additionally, some fixtures will be held at Bloemfontein's Mangaung Oval and East London's Buffalo Park.

CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki stated in an interview with the Sunday Times that the organisation will review the eight venues over the next two weeks. The most pressing issue is the installation of LED lights.

Moseki added that some grounds may require more aid than others.

The main upgrades must be completed by the end of 2026, less than a year before the start of the tournament.

Moseki also mentioned that CSA would request financial assistance from the government.
