Shanto Gears Up for Upcoming Test Against India

Following a groundbreaking Test series victory over Pakistan, Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is now setting his sights on a formidable challenge against Rohit Sharma's Indian team in the imminent two-match Test series next month. This significant triumph, marking Bangladesh's third away series win in 33 attempts, has infused the team with renewed confidence as they prepare to face India on their home soil.

While Bangladesh has delivered notable upsets against India in the limited-overs format, they have yet to secure a win in Test cricket. Shanto remains optimistic that key players, such as Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who played a vital role in the series against Pakistan, will maintain their impressive form against India. "This next series is crucial, and our recent victory has given us a boost in confidence. With experienced players like Mushi [Mushfiqur Rahim] and Shakib [Al Hasan] on our side, they will be essential in India. Mehidy was exceptional with his five-wicket haul, and I hope he can replicate that success," Shanto commented after the match.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz received the Player of the Series award for his outstanding all-round performance, taking 10 wickets and scoring 155 runs across two Tests against Pakistan. Shanto also highlighted the invaluable contribution of his pace bowlers, whose efforts were pivotal in achieving this historic win in Rawalpindi. "This victory is deeply meaningful; it's tough to put into words. The way everyone performed, especially our pace attack, was commendable. Each player held themselves accountable, and their desire to win was evident. I hope they keep this momentum going," he stated.

On the final day of the second Test, Bangladesh successfully chased down the 143 runs required to clinch a six-wicket victory, extending Pakistan's miserable home record to ten Test matches without a win since December 2021. Shanto expressed pride in his team's collective effort, particularly recognising the contributions of those not in the playing XI who supported the team from the sidelines.

"Everyone played a part, especially those who weren't given a chance. The four players who weren't in the XI but made significant contributions from the field were outstanding. I hope this positive culture continues," Shanto concluded, hinting at potential celebrations as the team readies itself for the series against India.
