Cricket South Africa has announced a 15-man squad, which includes a star player from last year's ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup, for the upcoming home T20Is against Sri Lanka.
Karabo Meso has been selected for South Africa's squad for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at home, starting on March 27.
Meso was a part of the inaugural U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2023 held in South Africa, where she impressed with her wicketkeeping skills, effecting eight dismissals in five matches - the most in the tournament. Her performance earned her a place in the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2023's Team of the Tournament.
She was later selected for Team South Africa in the first-ever Women's T20 competition at the 13th African Games in Ghana, where South Africa won the silver medal.
The return of all-rounder duo Annerie Dercksen and seamer Tumi Sekhukhune are the only changes to the squad from the T20Is in Australia in January.
The trio are replacements for injured fast bowler Ayanda Hlubi, who is still recovering from a groin injury, as well as Mieke de Ridder and Delmi Tucker, who will not be part of the T20I leg of the tour.
The upcoming series will be crucial in preparing both teams for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled for September-October.
Proteas Women's Head Coach, Hilton Moreeng, is eager to see how young players like Meso perform on the international stage as the team looks to fill some spots within their core structure.
South Africa will host Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series. The ODIs will follow.
