The impact player rule has been instrumental in driving the impressive scoring rates observed in the current season.
Teams now have a better understanding of how to utilise this rule, which was introduced last year and allows the replacement of a player named in the starting team at any point after the toss.
While this rule has received positive feedback from many players, there have been some reservations, with India captain and Mumbai Indians player Rohit Sharma stating that he is "not a big fan of the impact sub rule". The impact sub rule will ultimately hinder the performance of all-rounders, as cricket is played by 11 players, not 12.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has stated that the board will review the rule at the conclusion of this edition.
