Quinton Friend has been named the new head coach of the KZN Dolphins, following the departure of former coach Imraan Khan, who recently became Cricket South Africa's new batting lead. Friend, who served as Khan's assistant for the past five seasons, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Dolphins.
"I’m super excited and very privileged to be named Hollywoodbets Dolphins head coach. It’s something I’ve always aspired to and worked hard for," Friend said. He also praised Khan's impact on the team, acknowledging his success and influence over the past five years. "Imraan was a huge asset to the team, and he will be missed," Friend added.
Dolphins management expressed confidence in Friend's ability to step into the role, highlighting his deep understanding of the team's operations. "Quinny has been with the Dolphins for many years and has done his time as an assistant. We believe he’s the right person to lead the team, with Mduduzi Mbatha supporting him as assistant coach," said a Dolphins representative.
KZN Cricket Union President Yunus Bobat extended his best wishes to Friend, stating, "We are excited to see how Quinton will embrace his new role as head coach. He is a vital part of the Dolphins' fabric, and we look forward to his leadership."
Friend’s backroom team will include Mduduzi Mbatha as an assistant coach, Devon van Onselen as a strength and conditioning coach, Nick Moffit as a physiotherapist, and Kushen Kishun as a video analyst.
