In light of ongoing rumours, there has been speculation that the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) intend to allocate ₹50 crore for Mumbai Indians (MI) legend Rohit Sharma in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction. However, LSG team owner Sanjiv Goenka has responded to these assertions, dismissing them as unfounded.
In an interview with Sports Tak, Goenka clarifies that the rumours are without merit. He pointed out that it remains unclear whether Rohit Sharma will participate in the auction, and if he does, it would be financially irresponsible for any franchise to spend such a large portion of their budget on one player.
"Let me ask this: does anyone know if Rohit Sharma will be available in the auction? The whole notion is groundless. We need to see if MI decides to release Rohit Sharma. Then there's the question of whether he makes himself available for bidding. Even if he does, how will a team manage to acquire the other 22 players if they devote half of their budget to just one person?" Goenka stated.
When questioned about whether Rohit Sharma would be on his wish list if he were to enter the auction, Goenka deftly sidestepped the question, suggesting that while any team would welcome a player of Rohit's calibre, it needs to be financially feasible. He stressed the need to operate within the constraints of each franchise’s resources.
"Everyone would love to have the best captain and player on their roster, but that’s just wishful thinking. It’s not about what I desire; it’s about what can be realistically achieved with the resources at hand. Regardless of personal wishes, every franchise will have the same aspirations. You simply can't have it all," he concluded.
