India batter Suryakumar Yadav will miss the opening round of the Duleep Trophy, starting on September 5, due to a hand injury sustained last week. Suryakumar, who was set to play for India C against India D in Ananthapur from September 5-8, has been confirmed unavailable by BCCI sources.
The right-hander previously played for Mumbai in the final match of the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore against TNCA XI but missed the last day’s play due to the injury, as he did not come out to bat.
Suryakumar has since reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further assessment and recovery.
Meanwhile, the Duleep Trophy will feature India A and India B clashing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in another match of the competition. This tournament serves as a crucial opportunity for players aiming for selection in the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh, which begins on September 19 in Chennai.
